7 Gypsies in Paris

Let's Alter our Book

I love this book.  I can see how 7Gypsies used this book to showcase their products because it makes me want to run right out and buy all these great looking embellishments.  I have put together a nice little package of some 7Gypsie embellishments and other fun epherma so that you can turn this great book into your own personal piece of art.  More about that at the end of this instruction.

I am going to attempt to outline how I embellished my book to give you some ideas.  Of course, some of you will have a thousand other ideas as soon as you see the book.  Isn't that the fun of altering?  There are no mistakes, just great adventures in creating!

Tools I used for embellishing:

  • My package of epherma
  • Scissors
  • Stazon Ink Brown & Black
  • Crop-a-dile or any eyelet setter
  • Adhesive - I chose to use plain old white glue

I took my book to Staples and had them cut the binding off so that you end up with loose pages.  It cost me $2.00.  Most office supply stores or copier stores have this service.  I choose to have my binding cut off professionally instead of trying to cut it myself because they have a heavy duty cutter that cuts in one full motion.

After it was cut I punched holes in the pages using a paper punch.  If you don't have one of these, get it done at the office supply store.  BEFORE you punch holes in the book--do a dry run on a sample page cut to size to ensure it will be punched correctly!

I chose to rip and ink all the vellum pages.  On most I only ripped the right edge and then inked the edges of the page all the way around.  On one vellum page I ripped the top, bottom and right edge and then inked it.

Start with the cover and let's alter some more!

I chose a wooden red disc that I hand stamped with a fleur de lis and glued it on the cover.

On this page I have taken a scrabble letter (A) and inked it and will attach with glue along with a 7Gypsies metal piece right over the picture of the object.

I know it is hard to see the 3D effect in this picture
but it looks cool in person.

I am making my book as we go so I will be adding more pages as the days go by so check back.  IN THE MEANTIME, want to have your very own book--just check out our Catalog under Books & Magazines.  You can even buy all the embellishments I'm using to embellish my book--you'll see that too when you check out the book.  7Gypsies in Paris is SOLD OUT and OUT OF PRINT so get it quick!  Check back often to see more of the pages and embellishment techniques.
